Blogging and content marketing is one of my favorite things to talk about for business owners, and you can’t talk about blogging without talking about Pinterest. Pinterest is an amazing traffic driver for bloggers and business owners. Month after month it continues to my one of my top traffic sources for my own website.
This is exactly why I asked today Nicole from Saunders Says to answer a few questions about using Pinterest and hiring a Pinterest Strategist for your business. She’s an expert in all things Pinterest and has some amazing insight to share.
In the Pinterest management arena, there are basically three levels of service providers: Pinterest VA's, Pinterest Managers, and Pinterest Strategists. Pinterest Strategists being at the highest level are experts--they have spent the time digging deep into the knowledge of Pinterest and applying theory to practice. Pinterest VA's are typically just beginning and want to focus more on the scheduling as opposed to the strategy portion. The Pinterest Manager level falls somewhere in between and is a mid-level Pinterest service provider.

My bread and butter of the business are my monthly management clients. I take Pinterest completely off their plates and manage their presence, their strategy, their scheduling and pinning, as well as the oversight of their Tailwind account. A lot of people think that Pinterest is just about getting pins up--but there is SO much more to it than that. One of the best parts about having a Pinterest Strategist take over your account is the ability to eliminate decision fatigue. Besides having more time to focus on their businesses, clients can expect to see a growth in website traffic when working with me. The results will vary based on client, niche, and the amount of content they have or plan to produce. However, you can predict traffic to grow from Pinterest between 1-3% per month. My clients have said they make more each month from ad revenue because I am driving more traffic to their website or blog and that their best business decision of 2018 was hiring me.
I think any business owner can benefit from using Pinterest as a marketing tool for their business. The hard part is wrapping your brain around using it as a marketing tool instead of an escape outlet. Pinterest is a visual search engine, so you have to use it as such when marketing your business and content there.
If your ideal client is on Pinterest, you need to be on there. They cannot find you when searching for what they need (whether it's business coaching or social media tips) if your content isn't on the platform. You cannot rely on other people to save your blog posts or email opt-ins to Pinterest--you have to be the captain of that ship and get it up!
Instagram is where people build relationships, but Pinterest is the evergreen funnel to convert cold audiences into paying clients. They will save your content for later on down the road when they need it. Or they could need something quick, like a checklist or printable, that they will get by joining your email list. Once they are on your email list and get to know who you are and why you do what you do, you're going to have a client. It might not be today or tomorrow, but sometime in the future.
Pinterest is the best place to grow your audience base and get new people into your funnel. This is the ONLY platform that wants to send users to your website or blog. Facebook doesn't like it when users click links off their platform because they don't typically come back. But yall, Pinterest encourages it!!!
Growth is going to depend on a few things. First, Pinterest rewards consistency. They do not want people who are randomly saving one pin this week and then 20 pins on one day next week. Pinterest wants you consistently using the platform--that might be saving 5 pins daily or 5 pins each Sunday. You need to pick the best system that works for you.
Second, Pinterest is a SLOW BURNING platform. There are NO overnight success stories there. And if someone is claiming overnight success just cue Ariana Grande's "Thank You, Next" and keep going. It is going to take at least three months of consistent use to see results, and in some cases, it may take 6 months to a year. This is not to discourage you from getting on the platform, but I do want you to know that this is an evergreen platform that will take a long time to successfully grow. However, you really can do it!!!
If you don't have a blog, get one! Ha! But, if you create any type of content, you can use Pinterest to promote it. The only thing you own online is your self-hosted website (like Wordpress dot ORG) and your email list. If you are putting all your eggs in one basket and creating content on Facebook or Instagram--ask yourself what would you do if those platforms shut down tomorrow?
You can use Pinterest to drive traffic to YouTube, even! I encourage you to find out what type of content creation works best for you and then start sharing that on Pinterest.
Be like one of those athletic gear companies and just do it! Part of the reason people fail to use Pinterest as a marketing tool is the failure to get on the platform and use it. You won't know what works or doesn't work for you if you're not testing it on Pinterest.
